STORY ABOUT US

AYSIWG is here to add value to the community by making a positive impact on the lives of women and girls. We are here to support women and girls in identifying and exploring life choices and empowering them to attain their personal and professional goals through education, training, and support.

Some words from the executive director, Aneshia Y. Smith:

Upon hearing from a male colleague the statistic that women make 77 cents to the dollar compared to men and 92 cents to the dollar compared to men in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields, he asked me how I felt about that. My two-part response:

1) That statistic is based on an average.
2) There is nothing about me, or any other child of God, who knows and realizes in her being that she is created in the image and likeness of an awesome and omnipotent God, that is EVER average!

My life lived would blow that statistic out of the water. That does not apply to me. I then thanked him for bringing it to my attention because now I know that the women and girls coming through the Aneshia Y. Smith Institute for Women and Girls may be coming in with a limited belief based on that statistic. And now, it is my responsibility, until the day I take my last breath on this earth, to make sure that when they leave they know “THAT does not apply to me!”
